Jenesa and I have ridden through the canals of both Amsterdam and Venice.....even once in Vegas (but that doesn't really count!) This afternoon we went to Suzhou.....which is considered the Venice of the East.....and saw the Grand Canal.....which leads back to the city of Shanghai (if you've got an extra 12 hours to spare!). We were treated to a ride through the smaller village canals on a boat that looked nothing like a gondola.....and a guide that just woke up from an afternoon nap under a bridge!
We enjoyed our canal ride....but it didn't quite compare to the other Venice (in the West!). At least we could look forward to a giant pizza in Italy. Here, we have to settle for sticky rice and bamboo chutes.
