Our only scheduled tour in Hue (really the ONLY thing to do in this town) is a sightseeing trip to see the walls of the Citadel, the Imperial City, and the royal tombs of the Nguyen Emperors. Again, thanks to UNESCO funding....much of the Imperial City is being restored to its former glory. The Imperial City, created in the 19th century and modeled on the Forbidden City in Beijing, has many palaces and temples inside.
After a quick stroll through the palaces and temples of the Imperial City....we rode into the rolling hills of the surrounding Hue countryside to the Royal Tombs. We toured two different final resting places of Nguyen Emperors. These tombs were located in splendid landscaped gardens, featuring lots of ornate architecture..... certainly fit for a King's final resting place!
